The latest supreme court decision to commute the death sentences of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case was a good sign. The delay in the execution was mainly due to many political compulsions. When the both UPA & NDA government delayed the execution of these murderers, who killed our PM, was on verge to kill a Kashmiri and hanged him after 11 years of his crime.
Politicians carry executions at their convenience, today they decide to hang one Kashmiri (Afsal Guru for attacking the parliament), but delayed hanging on Punjabi (Balwant Singh Rajoana, who killed Punjab CM Beant Singh) and three Tamil killers (Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan for killing PM) for political reasons. In future too these political considerations exist and execute only the ones who doesn’t have a political voice in India.
In future politicians can plot any grave crime and can save themselves by leading agitations to make sure that a death penalty is never executed in time and use the plea of inordinate delay to subvert the verdict.
Inorder to avoid this selective executions and taking political mileage on hanging. India should abolish the execution and keep the values of a civilized community, which never takes another person’s life
