“Mathilukal” by Vaikom Muhammed Basheer

Saturday I read the novel “Mathilukal” written by the Sultan of Beypore (Padma Sri Vaikom Muhammed Basheer). In this novel Beypore sultan depicts his life at the prison. He is not happy since the political prisoners who had come in after him have left the prison, but no he. But on the due course he fell in love with a female prisoner, Narayani.Since the women prison is separated with a wall they were not able to met, but they exchange words, pickles, snacks and promises of love. But when they planned to meet each other the prison warden announces that Basheer has been released and he protests this order by saying “Who needs freedom? Outside is an even bigger jail.”

As per the newspaper reports on 10th July it is known that Indian government sends safeguards agreement to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board without discussing it with public(ie., in parliament). It was learned that government has done contrary to external affairs minister Mr. Pranab Mukerjee’s assurance that process of finalizing India’s safeguard agreement with the IAEA would begin only after the current government pass the floor test.
